Before opening the roles, test the hiring plan.

You have product goals and a plan to add engineers. You want an independent view of whether the proposed roles address the work ahead, which skills you need and what order makes sense.

I review one hiring plan with you and the relevant product or engineering leader. You leave with a short decision memo you can use to revise the plan or move forward with clearer reasons.

When this helps

  • You have funding or growing demand and are preparing to open several roles.
  • Your team needs more capacity, but the skills or responsibilities are unclear.
  • You want to challenge the hiring sequence before committing budget.

What I review

Bring the proposed roles, near-term product goals, current team responsibilities and the delivery evidence you already use. Role descriptions and estimates can be drafts. You do not need to prepare a polished presentation.

I agree the questions, available evidence and participants with you before starting. I review the material, then discuss the plan with you and the relevant leader. I examine what each hire would enable, what might remain blocked, and whether changes to priorities or ownership should come first.

What you receive

A concise written recommendation covering:

  • Which proposed hires have a supported case, and why.
  • Changes to role profiles, responsibilities or hiring order.
  • Assumptions to test before committing further budget.
  • Missing evidence and what could change the recommendation.

I walk you through the memo so you can decide what to do next. The recommendation may support the plan, change it or identify questions that need more investigation.

Scope and fee

This is a standalone, fixed-fee review of one proposed hiring plan. I agree the roles covered, inputs, participants, schedule and fee with you before starting.

It does not assess individual performance, run recruitment or replace a whole-function assessment. If responsible advice requires broader investigation, I explain what is missing and agree any additional work separately.

The memo should be useful whether you implement it yourself or bring in further help. There is no requirement to buy an ongoing engagement.

For broader questions about product priorities, team structure and delivery, see the Product and engineering assessment.

Discuss your hiring plan

Bring the decision you are facing. I’ll help you establish whether this review fits and what evidence would make it useful.
